You've probably seen the famous video of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge wobbling in the wind and then collapsing due to aeroelastic flutter caused by 40 mph winds. Lockheed Martin's X-56A Multi-utility Aeroelastic Demonstration (MAD) unmanned air vehicle was designed to test flutter suppression and gust load alleviation, vital for the successful development of "flying-wing" UAVs.
